Battle Tactic #1: Recognize that you have an enemy and it is NOT your spouse

The first time this concept was presented to me, it was an eye opener. When my wife said something that I didn’t agree with, that hurt, or that stirred up anger in me, I felt attacked by her, became defensive, and counter-attacked. I thought the battle was against her, but now I realize that it was not. She is not my enemy, but my real enemy is unseen.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephisians 6:12)

So, my enemy is the kingdom of darkness (Satan and his army), often working through my wife (and others) to cause division. Jesus has given us all we need to defeat this enemy, but we need to first recognize what’s really happening. That’s the first step in fighting effectively for our marriage.
